Port St Joe Homes For Sale - REO&Foreclosures HOMES - REO&Foreclosures LAND The legend of the lost city of St. Joseph is a major part of the history and folklore of Northwest Florida. Located on the shores of St. Joseph Bay, the city was for a time the largest in all of Florida. Over time, however, it disappeared almost without a trace and stories grew about the lost city by the bay. The site of St. Joseph today is occupied by the charming coastal city of Port St. Joe. Port St. Joe is the largest city of Gulf County and the county seat. This small deep-water port community is rich both in history and resources. Known as the “Constitution City” because it was here in 1838 that delegates from all counties in Territorial Florida assembled to draft Florida’s first State Constitution. In fact, this document was the basis of Florida government until the Civil War. The Florida Constitution (1885) embodies the basic plan and many of the provisions of the first Constitution that was drafted and signed in St. Joseph, currently known as Port St. Joe. The City of Port St. Joe is in a transitional stage from a primarily industrial to a more eco-tourist friendly town with pristine body of waters and beautiful beaches. The city is known for its history, the friendly locals, and great schools, emerging shopping district, Sacred Heart Hospital facilities and affordable living on the coast.
